[Camellia] Because its leaves remain green throughout the year, it is called Tokiwagi (常盤木), an evergreen tree. It is considered a sacred tree that wards off evil spirits and has been regarded as auspicious since ancient times. Since the Heian period, it has been valued as a cosmetic and a medicine for longevity. Among the nobility, it was treated as a noble and sacred flower, making it an auspicious pattern.
[Ise Katagami] This is a traditional craft that is hand-carved for dyeing patterns on kimonos. In the late 19th century, it traveled to Europe and the United States, where it greatly influenced art movements such as Art Nouveau in France, Arts & Crafts in England, and Jugendstil in Germany. It is a "design that the world fell in love with."
A 90-year-old Ise Katagami manufacturer carefully selected the pattern and had it carved by a skilled Ise Katagami artisan exclusively for this Bunko box. The original base paper for Ise Katagami is brown, but this one uses persimmon tannin paper with blended color powders for a more vibrant hue.
[Fir] An evergreen tree used for Christmas trees, it is a symbol of "vitality" that retains its green color even in winter. It is also said that the essential oil components of fir have a deodorizing effect.
