This is a Japanese plate created by Noboru Yamada, a traditional craftsman. The skills of Noboru Yamada, a Kyoto kimono gold leaf artisan, have been captured in this glass vessel. As each piece is handmade, no two are exactly alike.

Kawariyakibaku Kuroji "変り焼き箔黒地" describes a technique where specially treated, heated gold leaf is applied to a black lacquered surface. The "変り" emphasizes that the gold leaf is unique, with variations in color, texture, or pattern.
