This is a Japanese plate created by Noboru Yamada, a traditional craftsman. The skills of Noboru Yamada, a Kyoto kimono gold leaf artisan, have been captured in this glass vessel. As each piece is handmade, no two are exactly alike.
Ichimatsu Hyoutan Kuroji "市松瓢箪黒地" describes a design with a checkerboard pattern (市松) and gourd motifs (瓢箪) set against a black background (黒地). This combination creates a visually striking pattern with auspicious symbolism. The checkerboard pattern adds a sense of order and balance, while the gourd motifs bring in an element of good fortune and prosperity. The black background provides a stark contrast, making the design elements pop.
