This multi-tray is made of cast brass, modeled after an abalone shell (a type of abalone), and finished with a black patina using traditional techniques. Abalone shells have been considered sacred by Native Americans since ancient times, and because they come from the sea, they have been used in rituals as a source of healing from the sea.
