At Arita Porcelain Lab, we interpreted the color of this beginning as "black" and have long pursued the expression of this profound blackness through extensive research. As a result, we have created an elegant, sophisticated black and a pearl gray that evokes the steam rising above the magma ocean. Just as with the universe, these black and pearl gray pieces serve as a foundational base that harmonizes with a variety of colorful tableware. Please enjoy their beauty. The small bowls and rice bowls, perfectly sized to fit in the palm of your hand, can be used as soup bowls, dessert bowls, or side dish bowls, and are also ideal as rice bowls for moderate portions. Their clean and sleek form offers a modern and stylish impression, making them easy to coordinate with Western tableware as well. The shaping of the material involves a method called "mizukote," where clay is placed into a plaster mold and spun while smoothing it with water and a spatula. This technique is particularly suited for crafting circular items such as rice bowls, teacups, cups, and plates, requiring the skilled expertise of artisans. After shaping, the pieces are dried and then trimmed to refine their form. For porcelain, this trimming process is crucial for defining its shape, necessitating the expertise of skilled craftsmen. The shaped pieces are then bisque-fired at 920°C over two days. Following this, a unique glaze is applied to each piece by hand using a brush, and the pieces are reduction-fired at 1300°C over three days to complete the process.
