The traditional Arita-yaki pattern "Kikōkirimon" has been cherished for many years as a very vibrant design packed with auspicious motifs. The paulownia tree, considered a sacred plant as it is said to be where the phoenix perches, and the Kikō design, which symbolizes a cross-section of a gourd, are filled with auspicious patterns such as phoenix, cherry blossoms, bamboo, plum blossoms, chrysanthemums, and shippō (seven treasures). The phoenix is a mythical sacred bird symbolizing good omens, cherry blossoms represent vitality, bamboo signifies resilience and unbreakable strength, plum blossoms symbolize elegance and wisdom as an emblem of celebration, chrysanthemums are a symbol of longevity, and shippō represents wealth as depicted in Buddhist scriptures. Additionally, its design of interlocked endless circles signifies “infinite prosperity of descendants.” The wide mouth makes it easy to add ice, and being made of porcelain, it can be used for both hot and cold beverages.
