A modern rice bowl with ridges that fits comfortably in your hand. The clay is shaped using a technique called "mizukote," where liquid clay is poured into a plaster mold, rotated, and smoothed with water and a spatula. This method is particularly suited for forming circular items such as rice bowls, teacups, cups, and plates, requiring the skilled craftsmanship of artisans. After shaping, the piece is dried and trimmed to refine its form. In porcelain making, the final shaping through trimming is a crucial process that demands expert skill.
The dried piece is then bisque-fired at 920°C over two days. Subsequently, a unique glaze is applied individually with a brush and reduction-fired at 1300°C over three days. Platinum is then hand-painted as an overglaze and fired at 800°C to complete the process. Inspired by Japan’s powdered snow, the design expresses an everlasting brilliance and depth using "platinum."
The platinum, formulated with a secret technique passed down at the Yazaemon Kiln, is meticulously brush-painted by artisans, creating nuanced shading and a profound luster. While resembling the shine of silver, it does not tarnish or blacken like silver and is dishwasher-safe.
