It is the perfect size for a rice bowl and fits comfortably in the hand. In addition to serving side dishes like ohitashi, nimono, or dressed dishes, it can also be used as a soup or dessert bowl, elevating even casual vegetable ohitashi into a refined dish. The clay is shaped using a technique called "mizukote," where the clay is placed into a plaster mold and rotated while smoothing the surface with water and a spatula. This method is particularly suited for shaping circular items like rice bowls, teacups, cups, and plates, requiring the skilled craftsmanship of artisans. After shaping, the piece is dried and trimmed to refine its form. In porcelain making, the final trimming process is crucial for defining the shape, demanding highly skilled techniques. The formed piece is then bisque-fired at 920°C over two days. Afterward, each piece is individually coated with a unique glaze using a brush and reduction-fired at 1300°C over three days, completing the process.
