Side Plate 145mm - Platinum

A sophisticated platinum side plate, which can also be used as a dessert plate or bread plate. The plate, with a diameter of 15cm, is referred to as a "5-sun plate" and is a convenient size for use as a side plate, enhancing dishes of both Japanese and Western cuisines. It can also be used as a dessert or bread plate. The forming of the base material is done using a technique called "mizukote," where clay is placed into a plaster mold, rotated, and shaped by hand with the use of water to smooth the surface. This method is primarily suitable for forming round items such as rice bowls, teacups, cups, and plates, requiring the skilled techniques of experienced artisans. Afterward, the piece is dried and trimmed to refine its shape. In porcelain crafting, the final trimming process is crucial for shaping the piece, necessitating expert craftsmanship. The shaped base is then bisque-fired at 920°C over two days, followed by the application of a unique glaze individually brushed on by hand, and reduction-fired at 1300°C over three days. Inspired by the concept of Japan's powder snow, the piece is expressed in an eternally radiant and profound "platinum." Using a secret technique passed down at the Yasemon Kiln, the platinum is formulated and applied by artisans using a brush, creating nuanced shading and a deep luster. While the finish resembles the brilliance of silver, it does not tarnish or blacken like silver and is dishwasher safe. Finally, the platinum is overglazed and fired at 800°C, completing the piece.
