A refined matte white porcelain plate, perfect as a side plate. This versatile plate can also be used as a dessert plate or bread plate. The 15cm diameter plate, referred to as a "five sun plate," is a convenient size for a side plate and complements both Japanese and Western dishes beautifully. It can also be used as a dessert or bread plate. The forming process involves pouring clay into a plaster mold, rotating it, and shaping it with a spatula while using water to smooth the clay. This method, known as "mizukote" forming, is suitable for creating circular items such as rice bowls, teacups, cups, and plates and requires the skilled craftsmanship of artisans. After shaping, the piece is dried and then trimmed to refine its shape. For porcelain, the final trimming is an essential step to define the shape, requiring the advanced skills of experienced artisans. The shaped piece is then bisque-fired at 920°C over two days. The custom glaze, developed using proprietary techniques handed down at the Yazaemon Kiln, is applied individually by artisans using a brush. The piece is then reduction-fired at 1300°C over three days to complete the process. This white porcelain is reminiscent of Japan's powder snow, showcasing the beauty of unglazed white porcelain. The glaze, mixed using closely guarded techniques unique to the Yazaemon Kiln, is applied by hand with a brush, achieving a beauty in its whiteness that is globally renowned and evocative of Japan's powdery snow.
