A fine matte white porcelain six-sun plate. It is perfect for serving a single portion of salad or as a slightly larger side plate. The plate, with a diameter of 18cm, is called a six-sun plate and is ideal for serving a portion of salad or as a larger side plate. It is recommended when a five-sun plate feels a bit too small. The shaping of the clay is done using a technique called "mizukote," where clay is placed into a plaster mold, rotated, and smoothed with water and a trowel. This method is particularly suitable for forming circular items such as rice bowls, teacups, cups, and plates, requiring the skilled craftsmanship of artisans. After shaping, the piece is dried and then trimmed to adjust its form. In porcelain production, trimming is a crucial step for defining the final shape, requiring a high level of skill. The dried piece is then bisque-fired at 920 degrees Celsius over two days, after which a specially formulated glaze is individually applied with a brush. The piece is then reduction-fired at 1300 degrees Celsius over three days to complete the process. The result is white porcelain reminiscent of Japan's powdery snow, expressing the natural beauty of unglazed white. This beauty is achieved through a secret glaze formula passed down at the Yazaemon kiln, applied by artisans using brush techniques. The brilliance of this white, reminiscent of Japan's powder snow, is renowned worldwide.
