The shaping of the material is done using a technique called "Mizukote," where clay is placed into a plaster mold and rotated while smoothing the material with water and a trowel. This method is suitable for forming circular shapes such as rice bowls, teacups, cups, and plates, and requires the skilled craftsmanship of artisans. Afterward, the piece is dried and trimmed to refine its shape. Porcelain relies on trimming as the final step to achieve its shape, making this an essential process that demands expertise. The shaped material is then bisque-fired at 920 degrees for two days. A unique glaze is applied to each piece with a brush, and the piece is reduction-fired at 1300 degrees for three days. Subsequently, overglaze decoration is added, and it is fired again at 800 degrees to complete the process. The traditional Ko-Imari grass and flower patterns are expressed in black and platinum. The design features bats, which have been considered auspicious symbols of wealth since ancient times due to the phonetic similarity between "fortune" (福) and "bat" (蝠) in Chinese. This is a motif representing the auspicious pattern of prosperity. The pattern is used without altering its design, but the color scheme has been changed to black and platinum, giving it a modern expression. Auspicious patterns have long been used in Arita ware by earlier ceramic artisans, who wished to enrich users' lives both materially and spiritually.
