The traditional Arita ware pattern "Kikkō Kirimon" has long been loved as a very ornate design filled with auspicious motifs. The paulownia, regarded as a sacred plant because it is the tree where the mythical phoenix perches, and the kikkō, a hexagonal pattern derived from the cross-section of a melon, symbolize prosperity and grandchildren's flourishing. Within these patterns are scattered auspicious motifs such as the phoenix, cherry blossoms, bamboo, plum blossoms, chrysanthemums, and the shippō (seven treasures). The phoenix is a legendary sacred bird representing good omens; cherry blossoms symbolize vitality; bamboo signifies resilience and unbreakable strength; plum blossoms represent purity, wisdom, and a symbol of joyous occasions; chrysanthemums are a symbol of longevity; and shippō, derived from the "seven treasures" mentioned in Buddhist scriptures, symbolizes wealth and prosperity and, due to its interlocking circular design, conveys "infinite prosperity of descendants." The 13.5cm diameter individual plate can be used not only as a side plate or dessert plate but also as a saucer for matching rock cups. With its slightly raised rim, it is also designed for ease of use with dishes that include sauces.
