A modern small bowl featuring auspicious traditional patterns. Perfect for daily use, it pairs well with any dish such as boiled vegetables or simmered dishes.
The rim design, reminiscent of flower petals, creates an elegant and festive atmosphere. This bowl, suitable for everyday use, follows a shape that has been traditionally crafted at the Yasemon kiln.
The forming process involves stacking dedicated plaster molds with convex and concave pairs, and using a technique called "pressure casting," where slip clay is poured under pressure into the molds. Once the slip clay inside the mold hardens due to the plaster's absorbency, the formed piece is removed from the mold.
This method is particularly suited for creating uniquely shaped wares. Afterward, the piece is dried and trimmed to refine its shape. For porcelain, the final trimming process is crucial to shape the piece and requires skilled craftsmanship.
The prepared base is then bisque-fired at 920°C over two days, followed by the application of a unique glaze individually brushed on, and reduction-fired at 1300°C over three days. Afterward, decorative overglaze patterns are applied, and the piece is fired again at 800°C to complete the process.
The traditional Sanpo-Garami pattern is expressed in black and platinum, featuring motifs of bamboo, pampas grass, and peonies. Bamboo symbolizes unyielding strength, pampas grass represents the vitality of plants, and peonies are auspicious patterns believed to ward off evil spirits.
These traditional patterns have been modernized by retaining their original design while altering the color scheme to black and platinum.
Auspicious patterns have been widely used in Arita ware by past ceramic artisans with the hope of enriching users' lives both materially and spiritually.
We hope to deliver this sentiment to people worldwide through these crafted wares.
